BECAUSE HEATING COST YOU A LOT IN 2017 !

Heating with our good old wood stove is by far the cheapest option (1461 € less than an oil fired boiler in 2017). The evolution of the price of a wood cubic meter is not significant compared to gas, whose cost (subscription included) has almost doubled in 10 years. Electricity, mostly produced by our nuclear power plants, is not an alternative because its cost is, and will, increasing (plant fleet getting older, increase of imports).

The world has produced about 2550 kilos of cardboard per second in 2013 ! That’s 80 million tons a year. In 2016, we have reached 100 million tons ! Asia contribution is about 50%, mainly because of their exports of manufactured goods we buy and consume. Meanwhile we produce more than 400 million tons of paper in the world ; the United States is the leading exporter before Japan, the United Kingdom and France. The paper and wood product consumption of a French inhabitant represents a 90 meters high fir tree per year. Surprisingly Belgium is the first consumer of paper / cardboard in the world ! In the digital age, we have never consumed so much of it.

What an irony isn’t it ? This gesture “good for our planet” is not as green as it should be. If you didn’t know it yet, we do not treat our waste at home. They are sold and sent abroad (mainly in Asia) to be recycled, reconditioned. Then they come back to us. As the teleportation is still under development, big freighters do the job ! 15 of the largest ships in the world pollute as much (SO / SO2) as all cars worldwide.

On a smaller scale, think about the environmental impact of all the “garbage trucks”, with their daily journeys, as well as the logistics, to sort and transport the wastes towards the harbors.

Our mixed log is made of white paper, cardboard, flyers and newspapers. This proportion is representative of the waste in a garbage can of a French inhabitant.

Of course we could believe that burning paper would release more pollutant emissions than wood, in its compressed form. But heating your place with logs made by your machine rather than compressed wood would emit :

  • 90% less CO2
  • 89% less NOx
  • 61% less CO

We could have evoked other gases and gaseous heavy metals such as Antimony, present in the wood compressed log but totally absent from myPaperLog logs (13 μg / m³ versus 0). This element (Sb) is a polymorphous metalloid, toxic and carcinogenic like arsenic. Stephen Hawking confirmed that it was not good for our health.

The only improvement is the number of bricks you can make at each session. Some of you know the principle: your paper is soaked, you squeeze it and you make the brick dry. You need time, space and strength. All these constraints for fuel which is not efficient. For myPaperLog robot, all you have to do is inserting your waste. Your new companion will prepare optimal logs in a blink of a robot’s eye.
